What is the Workshop?
This workshop is a four-day retreat in the Blue Mountains (a World Heritage site just outside of Sydney) for 30 lucky YPs. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a collective space for young leaders to exchange skills and knowledge; and to prepare the draft Young Peoples Pact and Action Plan for People, Parks and Planet. This Pact, as a broader framework statement, and the Action Plan, a schedule of commitments to protected areas action by young people, will be our legacy moving forward from the 2014 World Parks Congress (WPC). The four-day workshop also includes: nature excursions, eco- restoration, participating in a dialogue with representatives of local communities and indigenous peoples engaged in conservation, and half a day session at the Google Headquarters in Sydney.
Who can attend and how can I apply?
The workshop is limited to 30 YPs (under the age of 35). You are required to apply by addressing the questions below. A panel of young leaders involved in WPC will assess the applications. The selected participants are expected to arrange required funding to travel to Sydney, Australia and to register (if they have not done so already) to attend the 2014 World Parks Congress.
How much will this workshop cost?
The four-day workshop is free! The GEF-IPAS project, collaboration between IUCN, GEF and UNDP, has generously provided funding to cover the cost of lodging, food and local transport (between Sydney and the Blue Mountains) for 30 YPs. This funding does not include international or other internal travel costs to Sydney and return back to your home location or your accommodation during the WPC. Planning and logistical support for the workshop has been provided by the ICCA Consortium.
