IDDRI - New publication on the governance of marine biodiversity in ABNJ

We would like to announce the recent publication by the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) of a study: "A long and winding road: International discussions on the governance of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction".
The study can be downloaded on our website at: http://www.iddri.org/Publications/A-long-and-winding-road

Its objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the discussions carried out under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ). To this end, it (i)describes the state of play of the governance of marine biodiversity in ABNJ; (ii) identifies the major issues the international community is facing with respect to its conservation and sustainable use (iii) gives an overview of the history of the UNGA "BBNJ Working Group"; (iv) focuses on the positions adopted by States in the context of the BBNJ Working Group discussions and (v) discusses next steps and possible ways forward, including suggestions regarding the possible content of an UNCLOS Implementing Agreement.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have comments or questions.
