A new career opportunity to build the IUCN Global Programme on Protected Areas

Dear Protected Area colleagues

You will be aware that following IUCN’s review of the Global Programme on Protected Areas, there has been significant support for determining new priorities for the programme aligned to IUCN’s emerging 2013 – 2016 Quadrennial Programme and ahead of the 2014 IUCN World Parks Congress. The World Protected Areas Leadership Forum has come to the table, supporting the GPAP through the
secondment of two full time staff from Parks Canada and from the US National Park Service. At the recent meeting of the forum it was announced that National Parks of Colombia would provide a third full time staff member.

This has enabled us to examine carefully the needs of the team, particularly regarding the future development and funding of the programmme and its priorities, in communicating and networking better with the regions and IUCN Commissions, and in enhancing administrative and management support at the centre.

We have therefore obtained approval to fill three vacancies:
