It is official!!!! .First MPA for green turtles in Uruguay

It is official!!!! Decree 285/11. The most important foraging and developmental area for juvenile green turtles in Uruguay has been declared Marine Protected Area last 10th of August, 2011.

Since 1999, Karumbé is working in Cerro Verde for the protection of sea turtles, and in 2006 we were able to put together a complete report for DINAMA (National Environmental Agency) highlighting the priority of
the inclusion of the Cerro Verde in the Uruguayan National System of Protected Areas.

Now in 2011, thanks to the support of many people, groups and organizations that were part of this long process, Cerro Verde is by law protected today!

Thanks for you energy and love for this amazing place unique in Uruguay
